Your eyes were resigned, inexplicably lonely; the brightest blue I had ever seen, the brightest blue I would never see again; hopeless, desperate, full of whispers you wanted to utter and, even more than that, explain, but never would. “And that's why,” you said, “That's why....” You never finished; you just turned and left, the door clicking behind you softly, too easily.
“I don’t understand,” I replied to the closed door. Then there was the high clear sound of the porcelain plate shattering against the heavy wooden door and I faded to black.
